Anjily Logs

are a unique and important feature of Kerala's traditional wooden architecture and construction. Known for their distinctive use in building structures, particularly in the state’s rural areas, Anjily logs come from the Anjily tree (Artocarpus hirsutus), which is a species belonging to the Moraceae family. The wood of the Anjily tree is exceptionally strong, hard, and resistant to pests, making it ideal for building purposes. Anjily logs are typically large and long, which is suitable for construction of beams, pillars, and rafters in traditional Kerala-style homes or temples. The logs are often used in the framework of buildings. The wood has an attractive grain pattern and a rich color that adds to the aesthetic charm of the structure. It is often used in the creation of intricate wooden carvings for decorative purposes. Anjily logs are often associated with traditional Kerala architecture, such as Nalukettu (the four-sided traditional home) and Ettukettu (eight-sided homes), where they are used as key structural elements. They are also an important material in constructing temples and other religious structures in Kerala.
